The Institute has made a considerable contribution to the development of geological science; the new trends of research into the genetico-informative mineralogy, regional geochemistry, topomineralogy, vitamineralogy, etc. have been worked out and are being developed at present. The Institute has played a major role in the study of the geological structure and history of the development of the North-East of the Russia's European part, the Northern Urals, the islands of Vaigach and Novaya Zemlya.
