The Institute is one of the biggest centers of Finno-Ugristics carrying out fundamental research in different fields of historical and phylological sciences such as archaeology, ethnography, folkloristics, national history, linguistics and literary criticism. The Institute has played a definite role in the development of humanitarian sciences in the Russia's European North-East, in the study of the history and culture of the Russia's Eoropean North population from ancient times to our days. Fundamental scientific works such as "History of the Komi ASSR", "History of the Komi Literature", "The Vychegda Perm" and others have been published.
